Why Remove Tree Stumps?

Tree stumps are more than just unsightly - they take up valuable garden space, present trip hazards, attract pests, and can make mowing difficult. Stump grinding is the most effective way to remove stumps completely, allowing you to reclaim your garden space for new planting, paving, or lawn.

  • Grinding depth suitable for lawns or replanting
  • Access through narrow gates (from 36 inches)
  • Minimal ground disturbance and mess

  • Single stumps or large-scale clearance

How Stump Grinding Works

We use specialist stump grinding machines that grind stumps down below ground level using a rotating cutting disc. The process turns the stump into woodchip mulch, which can either be left for you to use in the garden, or we can remove it. Grinding is much faster and less disruptive than manual stump removal and doesn't damage surrounding areas.

Benefits of Professional Stump Grinding

Removes the entire visible stump and root plate, prevents regrowth from the stump, eliminates trip hazards, makes mowing easier, frees up garden space, removes habitat for pests like honey fungus, and allows for replanting or construction in the same location. The process is clean, efficient, and causes minimal disruption to your garden.

Access and Site Preparation

Our stump grinders can access most locations, including back gardens through narrow side gates (minimum 36 inches width). We'll discuss access during our site visit. Before grinding, we check for underground cables, pipes, and services to ensure safe working. The area is left clean and tidy, ready for your next garden project.

What Happens to the Woodchip?

Stump grinding produces woodchip mulch. You can use this as garden mulch, add it to compost bins, or we can remove it for you. If you want to replant in the same spot, we recommend removing most of the woodchip and replacing it with topsoil, as wood chips don't provide good growing conditions.
